 Flights suspended to Ethiopian holy town of Lalibela as fighting expands Flights to the historic Ethiopian town of Lalibela ​were suspended on Thursday due to fighting nearby, seven sources said, as residents in the Tigray region to the north stocked up on food and ‌cash, fearing that renewed fighting could trigger another major war. Tigrayan forces seized three local airports and launched attacks in Afar and Amhara regions with allies there this week, in the most serious escalation since a devastating 2020-22 war against Ethiopian government troops. In its first public comments on the fighting, Ethiopia's army said on Thursday that it had foiled the attacks and killed, wounded or captured more than 500 enemy fighters. The United Nations ​and the European Union called for restraint and a return to the African Union-brokered peace process that had ended a conflict that killed hundreds of thousands of people. ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTIST, RECOVERY OF LOCALLY MADE SINGLE-BARREL PISTOL


In the ongoing efforts of the Lagos State Police Command to combat cultism and other violent crimes across the State, operatives of the Command have arrested a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity cult group and recovered one locally made single-barrel pistol in Mushin.


Following credible information on cult-related activities at Ogunmokun Under-Bridge, Mushin, operatives immediately mobilised a surveillance team to the area and arrested one Segun Alani, ‘m’, aged 24 years. A search of the bag in his possession led to the recovery of one locally made single-barrel pistol, which was concealed inside the bag. The suspect is currently in Police custody and providing useful information to aid the investigation.


The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has commended the operatives for their prompt response and intelligence-driven operation. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to disrupting cult-related activities and recovering illegal firearms across Lagos State, while warning cultists and other criminal elements to desist from their activities or face the full wrath of the law.
