 ANAMBRA POLICE RESCUE 10-YEAR-OLD BOY WHO LOST HIS WAY IN OKPOKO, SEEK PUBLIC ASSISTANCE TO REUNITE HIM WITH FAMILY The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a 10-year-old boy, identified as Chinecherem Onuwasoanya, who lost his way home after going out to play in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. The rescue was carried out by operatives attached to Okpoko Police Division in the afternoon of 1st November 2026. Preliminary interaction with the child revealed that he had left home to play but subsequently became unable to find his way back or locate his family members. A concerned resident, who found the little boy wandering, promptly took him to Okpoko Police Division for assistance. The child also disclosed that he is from Ebenebe, Anambra State. The Command has commenced efforts to establish contact with his parents or guardians and facilitate his safe reunion with his family.  At least 14 illegal miners killed in abandoned South African mine


Fourteen clandestine miners were killed and eight seriously hurt after a rockfall in a disused mine in South Africa where they were working, police said Tuesday.


There were no details yet of the miners, including their nationalities, as officials were still headed to the site, provincial police spokeswoman Colonel Adele Myburgh told AFP.


"Fourteen illegal miners dead at disused mine," a police statement said. Another eight miners were seriously injured, Myburgh told AFP.


The disaster was near the town of Rustenburg, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) northwest of Johannesburg.


Scavenging mines


Thousands of unregistered miners known as "zama zamas" operate in South Africa, scavenging abandoned mines for gold and other minerals in arduous and often perilous conditions.


They come from across southern Africa, driven by poverty and unemployment, and the sector has been linked to organised crime, assassinations, extortion and other illegal activities.
