Two Texas officers braved a mass of marauding bees to rescue a disabled man being attacked by the swarm. This absolutely courageous act of self sacrifice played out in Lyford, Texas on July 13th. On that day, the Lyford Chief of Police, Marcos Garcia, would lead from the front with the help of Officer Raymundo Sanchez to go above and beyond for a citizen in peril. The two heroes of the day were responding after receiving a report of an ongoing attack by a swarm of bees. To add to the drama of the day, the citizen under attack suffers from a physical disability that prevented him from executing his own escape. When the two officers arrived, they quickly located the victim lying on the ground while suffering an unrelenting attack by the bees. The victim had draped a towel over his chest in an attempt to mitigate some damage, but it appeared to be doing very little for the unfortunate man. Chief Garcia wasted no time as he leaped from his cruiser and charged head first into the fray....

Brandon Clarke’s cause of death confirmed nearly three months after former Grizzlies player was found unresponsive

The cause and manner of death of former Memphis Grizzlies player Brandon Clarke have been confirmed nearly three months after he was found unresponsive at his California home.

According to an Aug. 7 report from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Clarke died from the effects of heroin and cocaine. His death was ruled accidental.

Paramedics responded to his San Fernando-area home at around 5 p.m. on May 11 and found the 29-year-old in his bedroom. He was pronounced dead about 15 minutes later.

Law enforcement previously told NBC Los Angeles that drug paraphernalia was found at the residence, leading investigators to consider an overdose. Clarke’s death certificate also noted the presence of the combined effects of multiple prescription medications.

Clarke spent seven seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies after being selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft.

Before entering the NBA, the Canadian-American played high school basketball in Phoenix and later attended San Jose State and Gonzaga. He helped lead his high school team to a state championship and earned newcomer of the year recognition during his college career.

Clarke appeared in only two games during the 2025-26 season because of injuries.
