 PRESS RELEASE OYO POLICE ARREST SIX SUSPECTED COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY DEALERS, RECOVER €8,900 SUSPECTED FAKE EURO NOTES The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspects linked to the possession, circulation and alleged production of counterfeit Euro currency, following a successful patrol operation by operatives of the Command. On 1 September 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., operatives on township patrol around the Labo–Wesley area intercepted three men travelling on a motorcycle. A search conducted on them led to the recovery of 89 pieces of suspected counterfeit €100 notes, with a total face value of €8,900. The suspects were identified as Tijani Saheed, 50, who was found in possession of the suspected counterfeit currency; Oni Oladapo, 67, who is alleged to have supplied the money; Adebayo Saheed, 52, who was the second passenger on the motorcycle; and Hammed Karemu, 25, the motorcycle rider.  Chad President Déby pardons jailed opposition leader Success Masra


Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby has granted a pardon to his main political rival and opposition leader Success Masra, who has been imprisoned for more than a year after being convicted of inciting violence and complicity in murder.


The presidency announced the decision in a statement, saying it had approved a request for clemency submitted by Masra's lawyers.


Masra, a former prime minister and one of Chad's most prominent opposition figures, was sentenced last year to 20 years in prison and fined 1 billion CFA francs ($1.77 million).


According to the presidency, Masra is expected to be released in the coming days. He will be freed alongside eight other political figures covered by the pardon.


Enforceable penalties


"These nine individuals will be released as soon as the Ministry of Justice makes the necessary arrangements in the coming hours and days," the presidency said, Reuters reported.


"They have been pardoned by the Head of State. However, the pardon does not waive the civil penalties, which remain enforceable."


The pardon comes four days after President Déby pledged to release several convicted individuals as part of efforts to promote national unity, peace and reconciliation in the Central African nation.
