  NIGERIA/CAMEROON TO LEVERAGE TRADE MODERNIZATION FOR SEAMLESS CROSS-BORDER TRADE    Nigeria and the Republic of Cameroon are deepening ties to leverage the Trade Modernisation Project for seamless cross-border trade and shared prosperity in the region and across Africa.   The synergy was highlighted at a joint Nigeria-Cameroon One-Stop Border Post Assessment Custom Engagement held at the Ekok-Mfum Border in Cross River State. Maureenleo Ajom reports that  the Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi and the Director General Cameroon Custom, Edwin Fongod  brainstorm on joint    coordinated trans border management for Intra African Trade.

 Chidimma Adetshina Speaks Out Over 'Unfair' Deportation Battle: 'I Was Born in South Africa'


Beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina has broken her silence following a major court postponement in her ongoing South African immigration and citizenship dispute. The former Miss South Africa contestant and reigning Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 expressed frustration over her treatment, claiming she has been unfairly targeted and singled out by authorities.


On Wednesday, the Cape Town Regional Court deferred her case to February 27, 2027. The magistrate ruled that the court could not make a determination on her potential detention or deportation while a separate review application challenging her citizenship status remains unresolved before the Western Cape High Court.


'I Have Been Treated Unfairly'


Addressing reporters outside the courtroom, Adetshina maintained her innocence and reminded the public of her deep roots in the country. 'Firstly, I would like to say that I am grateful that I once again have been able to get an opportunity to have my faith in our courts, and I remind everyone that I was born in South Africa,' she stated.


Adetshina lamented what she perceives as a targeted campaign against her, suggesting that authorities are attempting to make an example of her. However, she emphasized that her response to the adversity would not be fueled by hostility. Instead, she has chosen to resolve the conflict strictly through established legal channels.


A Call to Reject Xenophobia and Misinformation


As public scrutiny surrounding her citizenship intensifies, Adetshina urged observers to respect the judicial process and refrain from spreading divisive narratives. She warned against the dangers of xenophobia, which has heavily overshadowed her pageant career and legal troubles.


'South Africa is governed by the rule of law and we should not allow xenophobia and misinformation to determine how people are going to be treated,' she said, appealing to the traditional African philosophy of Ubuntu humanity towards others to guide public discourse.


What Lies Ahead in the Legal Dispute


The legal saga, which centers on allegations surrounding her identity documents and immigration status, has now been put on hold. The outcome of the upcoming Western Cape High Court review will be critical in deciding her fate. Until that high court ruling is delivered, the Regional Court cannot move forward with any deportation or detention proceedings, granting the model a temporary reprieve from immediate expulsion.
