The General Hospital Somolu now has a new Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer in the person of Dr. Adesina Olumuyiwa Simeon Ayodele, BDS, FMCDS, FICD.
Dr Adesina, who assumed duties at the healthcare facility on the 20th of July, 2026, took over from Dr Mustapha Adebola Quadri following his meritorious retirement from the Lagos State Public Service on July 20, 2026, upon attaining the statutory age of 60 years.
The new MD/CEO is a distinguished Consultant, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with over 24 years of progressive experience in clinical practice, healthcare administration, medical education, and health systems leadership.
He holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree and has been a registered member of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria since 2001.
Following rigorous postgraduate specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he earned multiple fellowships that attest to his expertise in the management of complex maxillofacial diseases, trauma, reconstructive surgery, oral pathology, and multidisciplinary surgical care.
Before he was appointed Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer of The General Hospital Somolu, Dr. Ayodele served as the Director of Clinical Services and Training at The General Hospital Lagos, Odan, the flagship secondary healthcare institution under the Lagos State Health Service Commission.
In that capacity, he provided strategic oversight for clinical governance, patient safety, quality assurance, residency training, continuing professional development, accreditation programmes, and clinical service coordination.
His leadership strengthened institutional systems for quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
He also served as Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Programme across accredited Lagos State Health Service Commission training centres for Dental Surgery, (General Hospital Lagos, and Gbagada General Hospital for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Massey Street Children Hospital for Paediatric Dentistry; and Randle General Hospital for Restorative Dentistry, where he played a pivotal role in obtaining accreditation for the training at four training centres, mentoring resident doctors, and strengthening specialist medical education.
His commitment to workforce development has contributed significantly to building clinical capacity within the Lagos State health system. Dr. Ayodele has consistently championed healthcare transformation through the implementation of clinical governance frameworks, standard operating procedures, incident reporting systems, digital health solutions, risk management strategies, referral system strengthening, and performance improvement initiatives.
He has led numerous strategic projects aimed at enhancing service quality, operational efficiency, accountability, and patient-centred care across public healthcare institutions.
Recognising the importance of sound leadership in healthcare delivery, he has undertaken executive training in healthcare management and leadership, including programmes at the Enterprise Development Centre of the Lagos Business School, where his leadership qualities came to play as the class President for HMP-10, complementing his extensive clinical expertise with competencies in strategic planning, organisational leadership, financial management, health policy implementation, and institutional transformation.
He has delivered numerous scientific papers, keynote presentations, and professional lectures on clinical governance, patient safety, healthcare leadership, referral systems, quality improvement, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and health systems strengthening
His contributions to healthcare policy, professional education, and institutional development have earned him the respect of colleagues and healthcare leaders across Lagos State.
