Good Samaritan helps Texas officer rescue child from burning vehicle after crash

A good Samaritan helped a Texas police officer rescue a young child from a burning vehicle following a crash Friday morning in Beaumont.

When the first officer arrived at the scene, the vehicle’s engine compartment was on fire. A witness was already attempting to help, reaching through the shattered rear window to free the child, who was secured in a car seat.

The officer handed the man a knife so he could cut the child free. Working together, the officer and the bystander were able to pull the child from the vehicle through the rear window.

The officer then broke the driver’s side window and reached the driver. Investigators determined that the driver had suffered a medical emergency, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into a wooded area.

Beaumont Fire-Rescue crews arrived and extinguished the flames. The driver and child were both transported to a local hospital and did not appear to have suffered injuries.

Police praised the bystander for immediately stepping in to help, saying his quick actions, combined with those of the responding officer, helped safely rescue both the child and driver from the burning vehicle.
