Only lazy Nigerians depend on markets for food — Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, has come under criticism after saying Nigerians who rely on markets for food are “lazy”, as he urged citizens to embrace farming to tackle rising food prices. Nwaebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North Senatorial District, made the statement during an interview on The Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye which was published on August 1 with clips going viral on Friday, while defending the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Responding to concerns over food inflation and the rising cost of living, the senator said the government alone could not be held responsible for the prices of commodities in the market, arguing that citizens also had a role to play. “Do you expect Tinubu to moderate the prices of garri in the market? IGP DISU RECEIVES DG NOA, SEEKS STRONGER PARTNERSHIP ON NATIONAL VALUES, CRISIS PREVENTION


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today received the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, during a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.


During the visit, the Director-General reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to promoting national values, civic responsibility, and public enlightenment. He highlighted the Nigeria Identity Project and the National Values Charter as key initiatives for strengthening national cohesion, while proposing closer collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in the areas of public sensitisation, intelligence sharing, and early conflict prevention.


In his remarks, the IGP underscored the importance of professionalism, respect for human dignity, and ethical policing in strengthening public confidence in the Force. He also emphasized the need for responsible use of social media by verifying information before dissemination and encouraging positive values among young people. The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to sustained collaboration with the National Orientation Agency in advancing national security, responsible citizenship, and national development.
