Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him. I see brilliance trapped by poverty and enormous promise abandoned by leadership,” ...

Judge orders forfeiture of cash and electronics seized in Sean 'Diddy' Combs investigation

A federal judge has approved the forfeiture of cash and electronic devices seized during the investigation that resulted in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ criminal conviction, transferring ownership of the property to the U.S. government.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian signed the forfeiture order Tuesday, allowing federal authorities to take possession of the property and dispose of it according to federal law.

The forfeited items include several iPhones, iPads, hard drives and approximately $9,000 in cash that were recovered from Combs’ room at the Park Hyatt Hotel on Sept. 16, 2024, when he was taken into federal custody. The order also covers property seized during federal searches of his homes earlier that year.

The forfeiture was approved after no one filed a claim challenging the government's request during the required 30-day public notice period.

The seized property was collected as part of the federal investigation that ultimately led to Combs’ trial. Authorities previously recovered cash, electronic devices, firearms and other items during searches of his properties in Miami and Los Angeles.

A jury in July 2025 acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges but found him guilty on two counts of transporting people to engage in prostitution.

Combs was sentenced in October 2025 to four years and two months in federal prison. He remains incarcerated while his attorneys appeal his conviction and sentence.

His projected release date was recently changed to Feb. 20, 2028. The new date is roughly a month later than his previously listed Jan. 24 release date but earlier than several other dates that had appeared in prison records. No explanation has been given for the repeated changes.

Combs was also reportedly involved in an altercation with another inmate in July and was subsequently placed in solitary confinement.
