LIMPOPO POLICE RECOVER STOLEN NAVARA AFTER SUSPECTS FLEE INTO ZIMBABWE

Limpopo police have recovered a suspected stolen Nissan Navara after armed suspects allegedly attempted to flee into Zimbabwe following a high-speed pursuit along the borderline in Musina.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 15 August 2026, when members of the Beitbridge Task Team were conducting patrols along the N1, the borderline and within the Musina policing area.

According to SAPS, officers spotted a white Nissan Navara travelling at high speed along Malala Drift Road towards the border.

Police followed the vehicle, with assistance from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), as the suspects drove towards the Limpopo River.

The suspects allegedly opened fire on police when they reached the river and attempted to cross into Zimbabwe. Police returned fire, while additional Beitbridge SAPS members were deployed as backup.

The suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle on the Zimbabwean side of the riverbank and fled into Zimbabwe.

Despite the difficult terrain, police members entered the river and recovered the abandoned Nissan Navara.

No police officers were injured during the incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had allegedly been reported stolen in Brooklyn, Gauteng, during August 2026. It has since been seized for further investigation.

The suspects remain at large, and a manhunt has been launched.

He said law enforcement agencies would continue working together to prevent criminals from using the country’s borders as escape routes.

The investigation and manhunt are continuing.
