 Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him. I see brilliance trapped by poverty and enormous promise abandoned by leadership,” ...

 Netanyahu rejects Trump’s 15-point Gaza peace proposal, vows no Israeli withdrawal until Hamas disarms

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel will reject a 15-point Gaza peace proposal put forward by President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, insisting that Israeli forces will not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed.

Speaking at the start of a Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said Israel had rejected the proposal and that the Israel Defense Forces would maintain their positions in Gaza until Hamas no longer poses a threat.

Netanyahu also said Israeli forces would continue taking action to protect their troops and Israeli citizens from potential attacks.

Trump announced in July that Hamas had agreed to disarm as part of a U.S.-brokered framework that calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. The agreement was developed as part of a broader ceasefire arrangement reached the previous year.

Netanyahu’s rejection of the proposal creates another obstacle to efforts to advance the Gaza peace plan and secure an Israeli military withdrawal from the territory.
