 LAGOS CELEBRATES SOPHIA EKERUCHE: WORLD’S BEST YOUTH FEMALE SCRABBLE PLAYER The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) hosted Wizkid Scrabble player Sophia Ekeruche of Team Lagos, the 15-year-old crowned the world's best female Scrabble player at the just-concluded World Youth Scrabble Championship held in Kenya this past August. Hon. Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, received the young champion in his office at Teslim Balogun Stadium. NEW ECOWAS COMMISSION PRESIDENT GEN BIRAME DIOP ASSUMES OFFICE


The new President of the ECOWAS Commission, General Birame Diop, has  assumed office.


General Diop, a former Senegalese Minister of Defence and former Chief of the General Staff of the Senegalese Armed Forces, was appointed by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at its 69th Ordinary Summit in Sierra Leone.


He succeeds Dr. Omar Alieu Touray of The Gambia, whose four-year tenure as President of the ECOWAS Commission has come to an end.

The new ECOWAS Commission President Diop has promised to provide strategic leadership as the organisation works to strengthen regional integration, peace and security, economic cooperation and institutional effectiveness.


While reforms and new approaches to programme implementation are expected,  consolidation of key initiatives on economic integration,  security and political stability in West Africa will take Priority. 


Kelvin Ebhonuaye Reports that Anthony Ogunjimi of Nigeria will serve as the New Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission while all Commissioners have also been replaced.
