 Investigation underway into cause of deadly Kinshasa wedding fire Authorities in DR Congo have launched an investigation into a fire at a wedding party in Kinshasa that left at least 22 people dead. The blaze at a building in Lingwala started on Friday night and continued into early Saturday. Narrow hallways reportedly became blocked as people tried to flee. One more photo below.

NFF Sacks Super Falcons Technical Crew After Failed World Cup Bid


The Nigeria Football Federation has directed the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect, following the team’s failure to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.


The NFF Executive Committee announced the decision in a brief notice on Monday. No specific reason was given beyond the disappointing campaign.


“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the federation said in its statement.


The move comes after a challenging Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign. Nigeria opened their Group C campaign with a defeat to debutants Malawi. Malawi advanced all the way to the final before losing to Cameroon, who claimed their first WAFCON title on Sunday.


The Super Falcons’ tournament ended in the quarter-finals with a loss to Cameroon, costing them an automatic ticket to the 2027 World Cup. They later lost a playoff against South Africa, leaving Nigeria to pursue an alternative route to the tournament.


The technical crew is led by Head Coach Justin Madugu, supported by key assistants and backroom staff. Madugu and Edwin Okon were appointed to the Super Falcons technical team in November 2021 as part of a broader effort to overhaul the side’s coaching setup.


The decision follows a similarly disappointing campaign by the Super Eagles, who also failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Nigeria finished second in their group and then lost the African playoff final to DR Congo 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra time.
