 "Worth It" — Woman Pleads Guilty to Fatally Shooting 11-Month-Old Son to Keep Him From Father Madeline Veronique Daly, 36, pleaded guilty this week in Silver City, New Mexico, to first-degree murder in the December 23, 2025 killing of her 11-month-old son, Basil Stoner. Grant County deputies had tracked her to an RV off Highway 15 on a Wyoming kidnapping warrant after she took the baby during a custody dispute with his father, Jake Stoner. While officers waited for a warrant and tried to negotiate, Daly put a 9mm handgun to the boy’s face and fired. According to the criminal complaint, Daly told investigators her thought when she saw law enforcement approach was: “Jake can’t get Basil.” After her arrest she said it was “worth it” if Basil’s father and his family never got him.  Nigerian Pro-Biafra Activist Simon Ekpa Appeals 6-Year Terrorism Sentence in Finland


Nigerian pro-Biafra separatist campaigner Simon Ekpa has appealed his six-year prison sentence in Finland for terrorism-related offences.


Finland’s national public broadcaster Yle reports that the appeal is now being heard by the Court of Appeal.


BBC Pidgin says Finnish prosecutors have also filed their own appeal, seeking a longer jail term. They argue that six years is not enough for terrorism charges.


Ekpa was sentenced in September 2025 after a Finnish court found that he used his large social media following to encourage violence in south-eastern Nigeria and supported separatist groups with weapons and ammunition.


Ekpa campaigns for the creation of Biafra, a proposed independent state in south-eastern Nigeria.
