The Commissioner of Police in charge of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, Samuel Etaifo has condemned a statement attributed to the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, describing it as capable of heightening tension ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Commissioner said political leaders and public office holders are expected to exercise restraint and avoid comments capable of undermining public confidence in the electoral and security arrangements for the election.
CP Etaifo reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to neutrality, professionalism and the protection of democratic values, stressing that the Police would not tolerate any act, utterance or conduct capable of inciting violence, disrupting public peace or threatening the security of the state.
The Police Commissioner has consequently invited Senator Fadahunsi to provide clarification on the statement and foster mutual understanding in the interest of peace and security.
He said the invitation should not be misconstrued as intimidation, but as a proactive measure to prevent escalation of tension and ensure a peaceful, free, fair and credible election.
CP Etaifo urged political actors, their supporters and members of the public to remain law-abiding, shun inflammatory rhetoric and channel grievances through lawful means.
