 Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him. Rivers State Police Arrest 'Veryblackman' Over Alleged Death Threats to Comedian DeeOne


The Rivers State Police Command has arrested the controversial social media personality widely known as "Veryblackman" (also identified as Veryblackman of Port Harcourt or VeryDarkMan’s brother) following allegations that he threatened the life of Nigerian comedian and reality television star, DeeOne.


The suspect was taken into custody on Saturday after he reportedly ignored prior invitations from law enforcement. Following his arrest in Rivers State, he was immediately transferred to Lagos on Sunday to face further questioning and investigation.


The Origin of the Threat


The feud between the two online figures reached a boiling point in June 2026, when Veryblackman allegedly threatened to kill DeeOne. The hostility reportedly stemmed from DeeOne's public criticism of the prominent and polarizing commentator, VeryDarkMan, of whom the suspect is a dedicated supporter and "Ratel" group member.


Following the threats, a wave of condemnation swept across social media. Prominent Nigerian celebrities and media personalities, including Mario Wazobia and Broda Mike, voiced their concerns and actively called on security agencies to intervene and arrest the suspect.


DeeOne Reacts to the Police Intervention


Reacting to the swift development, an elated DeeOne shared the news with his followers on Instagram, praising the efficiency of the law enforcement officers involved in the operation.


"Arrested and swift to Lagos! Next time you won’t threaten someone’s life. Kudos to the Nigerian Police for doing their job," DeeOne wrote.


The suspect remains in police custody in Lagos as authorities continue their investigation into the matter, signaling a growing intolerance by law enforcement for online harassment and physical threats.
