 NHRC RAISES CONCERN OVER INCITING STATEMENTS AHEAD OF ELECTIONS; URGES CITIZENS TO PROMOTE PEACE / DEMOCRACY The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has raised concern over cases of hate speech, inflammatory statements, threats of violence and voter intimidation ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun state as well as the 2027 General Election. At a press briefing in Abuja, Executive secretary of the Commission Tony Ojukwu stressed the need for urgent action by relevant authorities to address statements capable of heightening tension and undermining peaceful participation in the electoral process. The NHRC specifically drew attention to divisive statements attributed to some Nigerians regarding the election in Osun State.  The commission urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint and promote messages that support peace, tolerance and democratic participation.  Sudan's RSF-Appointed Kordofan Governor Defects, Urges Fighters To 'Return To Homeland'


Hamad Mohamed Hamed, who served as governor and presidential council member under the RSF-linked Tasis government, announced his defection during a live broadcast on Al Arabiya, Sputnik reported.


He called on fighters to abandon the rebel paramilitary forces and "return to the embrace of the homeland."


Hamed accused the RFS of fueling tribal and racial tensions, destroying cities, and killing civilians, describing conditions under their control as "heartbreaking."


He urged the restoration of legitimate state institutions in Kordofan and Darfur.
