Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him. Brittany Boltinhouse says she believes her Miss North Carolina USA title was removed because of her conservative Christian beliefs

Brittany Boltinhouse says she believes her conservative Christian beliefs played a role in her removal as Miss North Carolina USA 2026.

Boltinhouse, who was crowned on June 28, lost the title just over a month later after the Miss USA Organization announced on Aug. 5 that she was no longer the state titleholder.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the decision, Boltinhouse told Carolina Journal editor-in-chief Donna King that she believes her title was “ripped from me because of my beliefs.”

She described herself as a “proud conservative woman” and “Christian woman,” while saying she remains at peace with the situation.

Boltinhouse also said a confidentiality clause in her agreement prevents her from discussing some of the circumstances surrounding the decision.

When asked whether supporting conservative views or President Donald Trump could be viewed as disqualifying within the pageant system, she said she did not know and maintained that she had not been given sufficient information.

The Miss USA Organization previously said the decision was made jointly with Boltinhouse, her state directors and the organization following conduct it said violated its standards.

Miss USA chairman and CEO Thom Brodeur did not specify the conduct involved but said the organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia or language that strips people of their dignity.

Boltinhouse, who is from Beulaville, said she remains confident in her identity and future despite losing the title.
