Usha Vance slammed for Dolly Parton Imagination Library tribute after library funding cuts

Following Dolly Parton’s death at age 80, Usha Vance, wife of Vice President JD Vance, shared a tribute highlighting the singer’s Imagination Library, a program that provides free books to children from birth to age five.

In her post, Usha praised Parton’s love of storytelling and encouraged families to honor her legacy by reading together. She noted that her own family had been subscribers to the program and lifelong fans of Parton’s music.

Despite the heartfelt tone, Usha’s message quickly drew criticism online. Commenters accused Republican lawmakers of hypocrisy, pointing out recent cuts to funding for Parton’s literacy initiative in states like Indiana and Missouri.

Others referenced broader controversies over book bans and library funding reductions, arguing that her party’s actions undermined the values Parton championed.

Some users even invoked Trump-era policies that threatened the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which supports libraries nationwide.

The backlash underscored the tension between Usha’s personal advocacy for children’s literacy and the political decisions associated with her husband’s party.

While she continues to promote her own podcast, Storytime with the Second Lady, critics argued that her tribute rang hollow against the backdrop of funding battles and lawsuits over library support.

The episode highlighted how tributes to cultural icons can become flashpoints when intertwined with ongoing political debates.
