A Georgia man, who had been released on bond, followed the deputy that arrested him... and killed him in an ambush.
A Georgia mother is grieving the sudden loss of her husband while two children are having to face the heartbreaking fact that their daddy isn't coming home from work ever again. Those young children will grow up knowing that their father lost his life while serving his community. They will also know their dad's life was stolen from him because a person couldn't handle the repercussions of their own actions.
On Tuesday, September 1st, Sgt. Chris Fisher had just concluded a traffic stop and was wrapping up the report inside of his patrol vehicle.
Chris was parked at the Meriwether Country Inn at 11:56 p.m. and was unaware that a man had been stalking him, waiting for the moment when he would be caught completely unaware and unable to defend himself.
It's hard to imagine what may have been going through Chris's mind in the moments before his life was ended in such a callous way. Sadly, he most likely did not notice the black Chevy Silverado as it quietly pulled alongside of him as he was busy.
That quiet was abruptly ended by gunfire coming from the Chevy Silverado.
Sgt. Chris Fisher was pronounced deceased on the scene. Sgt. Fisher worked for the Warm Springs, Georgia Police Department at the time of his passing.
He was only 36 years old.
Chris had been hired in May of 2026 and was recently promoted to sergeant in July. This is an impressive promotion, and it was earned through hard work, as Chris Fisher has served in law enforcement ever since he was just 18 years old.
Chris leaves behind a wife and two children.
23-year-old, Jimmie Steverson, was the man that pulled the trigger. He was the man who ambushed and killed Sgt. Fisher, for revenge, and an inability to face or own up to his own actions that landed him in jail.
Sgt. Fisher arrested Jimmie at approximately 1:00 a.m. on the morning of August 28th. Jimmie had been charged with possession of a g*n during the commission of a crime, felony possession of marijuana, and felony obstruction for striking an officer. Jimmie had punched Sgt. Fisher in the face.
However, 14 hours after being booked into jail, Jimmie posted $10,000 and was released. After his release, Jimmie had decided he wanted revenge.
After the cold blooded ambush and m*rd*r of Sgt. Fisher, a 'Blue Alert' was issued, and instead of hunting, Jimmie Steverson was being hunted. A Blue Alert is issued when an individual is on the run after severely injuring, or, taking the life of an officer.
However, just like before, Jimmie would not simply face up to the consequences of his actions.
Deputies in Anderson County, South Carolina, conducted a traffic stop on I-85 yesterday, September 2nd, after spotting the vehicle connected to Sgt. Fisher's m*rd*r. According to deputies, they unfortunately found Jimmie Steverson suffering from a self-inflicted g*nshot wound in the passenger seat.
Live saving procedures were started immediately. Jimmie was transported to a nearby hospital and passed away soon after arriving.
Our thoughts are with Chris's family and friends, as well as everyone involved, as they deal with this unimaginable loss of life.
