AGORO KICKS OFF 20TH HOS GAMES, SAYS SPORTS PROMOTE FITNESS, UNITY
Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, on Thursday, 17th September, 2026, officially kicked off the 20th Edition of the Head of Service (HOS) Games at the Lagos State Rehabilitation Centre, Isheri-Berger, in the company of the Body of Permanent Secretaries.
Addressing participants at the event, Agoro said the annual sporting competition was organised to promote physical fitness, relaxation, social interaction and productivity among Public Servants.
He noted that the HOS Games had been held consistently over the years, providing Public Servants with an avenue to unwind, engage in sporting activities and foster healthy relationships beyond the workplace.
According to him, the Games serve as a rallying point for Public Servants, with football and other sporting activities providing opportunities to promote camaraderie, team spirit and stronger relationships across the Public Service.
Agoro disclosed that the competition was not limited to football, noting that other sporting activities featured in the Games included Table Tennis, Scrabble, Chess, Tug of War, Tennis, Ayo and Draught. He added that active participation in sporting activities would help Public Servants maintain physical fitness and contribute to a healthier and more productive workforce.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, said the State Government was pleased with the increasing participation of agencies in the competition, stressing that the Games were designed to promote sportsmanship, physical exercise and the overall wellbeing of Public Servants.
Oyegbola emphasised that the essence of the Games went beyond winning, noting that participation and the spirit of sportsmanship remained central to the event. She added that the friendly banter among Permanent Secretaries over the performances of their respective teams had further added excitement to the competition.
She said the Games had continued to strengthen team spirit and promote unity across the Public Service, while encouraging government agencies to participate in future editions. According to her, more Agencies and Accounting Officers had shown increased interest in the competition this year.
In the opening football match of the tournament, Team Public Service Office (PSO) defeated Team Parastatals Monitoring Office (PMO) by two goals to one.
