 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Benue State Governor Alia Condemns Ayilamo Attack, Commiserates With Victims


Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the gruesome attack on Ayilamo community in the Logo Local Government Area, which led to the tragic loss of innocent lives, including four police officers.


In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia describes the incident as a disturbing reminder of the persistent insecurity and repeated attacks on vulnerable communities and law-enforcement officers in the area.


While commiserating with the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, over the loss of the four officers who paid the supreme price in the service of their fatherland, the Governor commends the Department of State Services, particularly its personnel in Benue and Nasarawa States, for the prompt and professional operation that led to the arrest of three suspects allegedly connected with the Ayilamo attack. 


He describes the arrest as a significant step towards uncovering the full circumstances of the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.


Governor Alia however assures that his administration will continue to collaborate with the security agencies to strengthen security in Ayilamo, Logo, and other vulnerable communities across the State. 


The Governor further assures the people of Ayilamo and the entire State that they will not be abandoned.
