 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  CG NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE ADVOCATES  REINTEGRATION ROLES FOR TRADITIONAL RULERS


The Controller-General of Correctional Seevice Sylvester Nwakuche reaffirms the role of traditional institutions in the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders into society.


A statement by the  Public Relations Officer of the Service, Jane Osuji, indicates that  Nwakuche gave the affirmation while receiving two traditional rulers on separate courtesy visits to the Service Headquarters in Abuja.


The Gomo of Kuje, Haruna Tanko Jibrin, pledges the continued support of the Kuje traditional institution and stressed the importance of cooperation between host communities and custodial facilities in promoting peace and security.


The Paramount Ruler of the Kajju Traditional Council, Luka Kogi Yabuwat, a retired correctional officer, called for greater community support for the reintegration of former inmates and warned against stigmatization and exclusion.


The Controller-General stresses that effective corrections extend beyond custodial facilities, noting that families, communities and traditional leaders have important roles to play in achieving lasting rehabilitation, reducing recidivism and building safer communities.
