 U.S commends NDLEA over busts of Mexican meth labs as Marwa seeks continued support.   The United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) for Africa and the Middle East, Michael Gonzales has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its operational successes, describing Nigeria as the clear answer for the first country to visit after his appointment. Gonzales made the remark on Tuesday, 20th October 2026, during a visit to the NDLEA national headquarters in Abuja, where he was received by the Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), and members of the agency's management team.  Dangote Group to Proceed with 16 Billion Dollar Kenya Refinery Groundbreaking Despite Court Order


The Dangote Group has announced its determination to move forward with the launch of its massive 16 billion dollar oil refinery in Kenya, despite a recent court order restricting activities on the disputed land allocated for the project. The Nigerian conglomerate confirmed that the official groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed 700,000-barrel-per-day facility in Lamu will take place as originally scheduled.


Understanding the Court Ruling


The Malindi Environment and Land Court recently issued an order directing all parties involved in the property dispute to maintain the status quo on the land until October 14, when the case is set to return to court. The dispute centers around a specific parcel of land identified as LR No. 13061, located in the Hindi and Manda Magogoni region of Lamu County. Crucially, the court declined to block the groundbreaking ceremony itself, allowing the promotional events to proceed.


Reacting to the judicial development, the Dangote Group stated that the ruling has not derailed the launch of the multibillion-dollar energy project. While the conglomerate acknowledged that some site development activities might be temporarily affected by the order to prevent interference with the land, the broader project timeline remains intact.


Dangote Prepared for Legal Challenges


Aliko Dangote, the president of the Dangote Group, expressed confidence in the company's ability to protect its investments through the legal system. He drew a parallel to a past investment hurdle the company faced in Senegal, which escalated to the Supreme Court before the Dangote Group ultimately secured a favorable ruling.


Addressing the challenges, Dangote stated that the company is fully prepared to defend its interests in court against any parties attempting to disrupt the development. The Lamu refinery is expected to be a major step forward for East Africa's energy infrastructure, aligning with the group's broader vision of reducing fuel imports across the African continent.
