ABU Vice-Chancellor Hosts 100 Students To Lunch, Urges Them To Look Beyond Certificates The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has hosted 100 students to a lunch, urging them to look beyond academic certificates and focus on creating value and making meaningful contributions to society. The students participated in the university’s Lunch with the Vice-Chancellor programme held at the weekend, where Prof. Ahmed interacted with the select group and discussed the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities awaiting them both within and beyond the university. The Vice-Chancellor said the university would sustain the annual programme because its greatest strength lies in its people. “A university is not only its buildings, laboratories, and lecture halls; it is, above all, its people,” he said.  FG TO OPERATIONALISE 112 CODE AS NATIONAL EMERGENCY LINE

The Federal Government has directed stakeholders and relevant agencies to design a comprehensive operational roadmap for the nationwide rollout of the 112 national emergency number.

To this end, the government has constituted a committee comprising the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Communications Commission, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps and other relevant  agencies to finalise the roadmap and standard operating procedures for formal endorsement of the National Economic Council (NEC).

NEC had recently approved the 112 as Nigeria's single universal toll-free emergency number to replace fragmented and slow response lines, with a view to eliminating bureaucratic red tape and allow citizens easy access to rapid help during fires, accidents, medical crises, or security breaches.

Vice President Kashim Shettima who gave the directive at the meeting, urged the committee to ensure their decisions are based on global best practises in order to have a clear roadmap.

Charging the committee to finalize the roadmap and standard operating procedures for formal NEC endorsement, the Vice president stressed the need to make significant progress, assuring that once it becomes visible, resources will be available to fund the process.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, said the Nigeria Police Force is fully in support of the adoption of 112 as Nigeria's unified national emergency number.
