 JFK’s Grandson Jack Schlossberg Rips Trump Over Kennedy Center Drama


Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, is once again speaking out against President Donald Trump as the battle surrounding Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center continues to escalate.


Schlossberg, the son of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, took to Instagram Thursday to defend his grandfather’s legacy and criticize Trump’s handling of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.


“JFK’s legacy is unbreakable — the moon, the Civil Rights Act, Cuban Missile Crisis and the arts,” Schlossberg wrote. He then described Trump as “a broken band in nose dive decline.”


His comments came amid a new round of controversy surrounding the Kennedy Center, which was established by Congress as a living memorial to the 35th president following his 1963 assassination.


The dispute intensified this week after the Kennedy Center’s Trump-aligned board voted to close the main building for renovations. The decision came shortly after a federal judge again ruled that Trump’s name could not be added to the building without congressional approval. Congress has already allocated $257 million toward renovations at the performing arts center.


Trump has argued that the Kennedy Center is facing serious financial and structural problems and has said his administration deserves recognition for its efforts to restore the institution. Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Trump warned that without intervention, the center could eventually close and be “ripped down.”


Adding to the controversy was a photograph showing Trump looking at presentation material bearing the words “Kennedy Center DEMOLISHED,” which drew further attention from Schlossberg and other members of the Kennedy family.


A federal judge has since ordered Kennedy Center officials to provide at least 30 days’ notice before undertaking major structural changes, including any potential demolition. The court has also maintained that changes involving the center’s official memorial designation require congressional authorization.


Schlossberg isn’t the only Kennedy family member objecting to recent developments. Maria Shriver and Kerry Kennedy have also publicly criticized the decision to close the center and expressed concern about what they see as an effort to alter an institution created to honor JFK’s legacy.


The Kennedy Center has become a continuing political and legal flashpoint since Trump returned to office and reshaped its leadership. Trump became chairman of the board after replacing several trustees, while changes at the institution have been followed by artist cancellations, resignations and legal challenges.


For Schlossberg, however, the latest dispute goes beyond the name on a building. His response emphasized his grandfather’s support for the arts as an important part of JFK’s presidential legacy.


With court proceedings continuing and the Kennedy Center’s future under debate, the fight over one of Washington’s most recognizable cultural institutions appears far from over.
