 Maura Higgins says Mark Ballas is a ‘miracle worker’ after her disastrous “Dancing With the Stars” rehearsals

Maura Higgins impressed both the audience and judges during her debut on Dancing With the Stars, performing a Foxtrot with professional partner Mark Ballas. 

Despite repeatedly describing herself as a beginner before the premiere, Higgins appeared confident on the ballroom floor and earned 21 out of 30 points from the judges. 

Derek Hough praised the quality of her movement for the first week, noting that her performance exceeded his expectations. After the show, Higgins admitted she was still shocked by the reaction and had not yet watched the performance herself.

Higgins credited Ballas for helping her improve, joking that rehearsal videos showed how much work they had done on her technique and footwork. She also said it was easier to trust Ballas on DWTS because they were no longer competing in the deceptive environment of The Traitors. 

Both had previously appeared together on the reality series, where contestants constantly questioned each other’s motives. 

Ballas recalled that their last television appearance together involved a dramatic coffin scene, making their transition to the dance floor particularly memorable.

The pair also incorporated elements of The Traitors into their routine, including Higgins’ burgundy Hermès Birkin bag, which was a gift from Rob Rausch. Higgins praised Ballas’ choreography and said she was determined to improve throughout the competition.

 Ballas, meanwhile, said her strong work ethic had surprised and impressed him. He explained that mastering ballroom dancing requires repeatedly practicing details until the movements become natural. 

Higgins described her first performance as one of the most frightening experiences of her life, even comparing it to the fear of skydiving.
