 Michelle Obama finds out exactly what US Open crowd thinks of her during Sabalenka-Pegula


Michelle Obama stole the spotlight during the US Open women’s semifinals when her face appeared on the big screen at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The former First Lady was in attendance to watch Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff take on the tournament’s top seeds. 


While celebrities often draw attention at the event, Obama received the loudest ovation of the night, with fans cheering and applauding for nearly 15 seconds as she smiled in response.


Her presence carried added meaning given her history of supporting Gauff. The Obamas had previously met the young star at the 2023 US Open, where Michelle’s encouragement lifted Gauff’s spirits after an early match. 


Gauff later described meeting both Michelle and Barack as unforgettable, saying it transformed her mood and gave her confidence. That year, Gauff went on to win her first Grand Slam title, cementing her status as a rising superstar.
