 NONYE SOLUDO CONDEMNS ALLEGED CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN ONITSHA, CALLS FOR JUSTICE

The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has condemned the alleged sexual abuse and exploitation of a child by her supposed mother in Onitsha, calling for justice and stronger protection for vulnerable children.

Dr. Soludo made her position known in a statement published on her official Facebook page on September 11, following the reported rescue of four children in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged abuse.

Expressing deep concern over the development, the First Lady described the alleged abuse of innocent children as disturbing, stressing that children deserve protection, love and a safe environment to grow.

She said no child should be subjected to sexual exploitation or abuse, adding that society must never become comfortable with acts that threaten the safety, dignity and wellbeing of children.

Dr. Soludo commended the Anambra State Police Command and individuals whose information and intervention reportedly contributed to the rescue of the four children.

She urged the police to conduct a thorough, transparent and professional investigation to establish the full facts, identify anyone who may have been involved and ensure that the law takes its full course where wrongdoing is established.

The First Lady said her heart was particularly with the rescued children, stressing that their wellbeing must remain a priority beyond the immediate rescue.

According to her, protecting the children physically is only the beginning, as appropriate emotional and psychological support would also be necessary to help address any trauma they may have suffered.

Dr. Soludo further said she would continue to follow the case closely and remain in touch with relevant authorities to ensure that the children were properly protected and that justice was served.

She also appealed to parents, guardians, neighbours and community members to remain vigilant and speak up whenever they notice anything that could threaten the safety or dignity of a child.
