 Abia Demolishes Structures Along Railways Quarters for New Road Project The Abia State Government has demolished shops and shanties on the right flank of the Nigerian Railways Quarters in Umuahia to clear the way for an ongoing road construction project. The Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) defended the action, stating that the occupants were given sufficient notice before the bulldozers moved in. According to the design plan and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Abia State Government and the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), the new road will run from the First Bank junction on Market Road through the Railways Quarters and terminate at Akanu Ibiam Road in the state capital. The government said the project is intended to ease traffic congestion in Umuahia and restore the aesthetic appeal of the capital city. POLICE FOIL ATTEMPTED CATTLE RUSTLING, RECOVER EIGHT COWS AND ABANDONED GETAWAY VEHICLE IN DARAZO LGA


The Bauchi State Police Command has once again demonstrated its unwavering resolve to combat cattle rustling and other economic crimes following the swift interception of a suspected stolen herd of eight cows on 3rd September, 2026.


At about 0258hrs, the Command received a timely tip-off from a vigilant citizen, who reported that a group of suspected cattle rustlers were sighted loading cows into a Chevrolet Saloon car with Registration Number DAS 452 NE. According to the report, two cows had already been forced into the vehicle while six others were held at the scene awaiting loading.


Acting promptly on the information, police operatives attached to Darazo Division mobilized to the scene. However, upon sighting the team, the suspects abandoned the vehicle, the already loaded cows, and the six others, and fled into the darkness to evade arrest.


Upon arrival at the scene, operatives recovered the abandoned Chevrolet saloon car with two cows inside, while the remaining six cows were found tethered nearby, yet to be loaded. Consequently, all eight cows and the vehicle were secured as exhibits.


Meanwhile, concerted efforts were made in identifying the rightful owner of the recovered cattles to whom eventually the exhibits were released on bond. Intensive manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects for prosecution.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc(+), commends the vigilance and prompt action of the good citizen, which led to the successful recovery. He furthermore urges members of the public to emulate such patriotic spirit by promptly reporting suspicious movements, while reiterating the Command's commitment to safeguarding lives, property and livestock across the State.
