Sudanese army downs unidentified 'enemy drones' in Kassala state

The Sudanese army shoot down drones in eastern Sudan, according to local media on Tuesday, TRT Afrika reported.

The drones were downed by air defenses in the Al-Fashaga area of Gedaref state and Khashm al-Girba in Kassala state, the daily Sudan News reported.

The report described the drones as belonging to the “enemy,” without identifying their operator or providing information about casualties or damage.

This comes five days after Sudan's army shot down drones belonging to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces near the capital, Khartoum.

The Sudanese army air defences have repeatedly engaged and shot down militia drones that attempted to target areas in northern Omdurman, home to a large military zone and near Khartoum.

In January this year, Hamid Ali Abubakar, security adviser to Rapid Support Forces commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, was killed along with several aides in a drone attack carried out by the Sudanese army near the city of Zalingei.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed by fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a conflict that has killed thousands and displaced millions of people.
