Taylor Swift Unveils 1st Look at ‘Patient Zero’ Music Video, Reveals A-List Costars
Taylor Swift is giving fans their first glimpse of her mysterious new “Patient Zero” music video — and she’s bringing two major Hollywood stars along for the ride.
The 36-year-old superstar unveiled a dramatic 13-second teaser Thursday, Sept. 24, revealing that Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell will costar in the highly anticipated visual.
The exclusive first look debuted on “CBS Mornings” before making its way online, immediately sending Swifties into detective mode.
Despite lasting only 13 seconds — a number famously significant to Swift — the preview is packed with mysterious imagery.
One scene shows Swift and Johnson standing together at a gravesite, with Swift appearing to comfort the actress. The gravestone appears to memorialize an unidentified daughter who lived from 1989 until 2022.
Other flashes show Swift washing her hands, two figures plunging into water and a black rose.
Swift also appears visibly emotional in one scene while wearing what appears to be a large engagement ring.
Farrell eventually appears alongside Swift and Johnson inside a sleek, mysterious modern home, although exactly how the three characters are connected remains unknown.
The cinematic video also has some serious Hollywood talent working behind the camera.
Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki shot the project. Lubezki is known for his acclaimed work on movies including “Gravity,” “Birdman” and “The Revenant.”
Swift has not revealed the storyline behind the video, and the brief preview contains no lyrics from the song, leaving fans with little more than its haunting visuals to decipher.
The wait for answers won’t be long.
“Patient Zero” will be released Friday, Sept. 25, as part of Swift’s newly announced expanded album, “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.”
The expanded project includes four new songs: “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon.”
Swift announced the new music earlier this week after teasing fans with another of her elaborate countdowns and hidden clues.
“I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single ‘Patient Zero’ will be out on September 25,” Swift told fans while announcing the track.
The full “Patient Zero” music video will then receive its world premiere during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27.
The night will already be a major one for Swift.
She is set to receive the first-ever MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, an award recognizing musicians whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music videos and visual storytelling.
Swift is also nominated for 11 awards at this year’s ceremony. Receiving the new honor will officially make her the most-awarded artist in VMA history, breaking her previous tie with Beyoncé.
But before any trophies are handed out, much of the attention is already focused on “Patient Zero.”
Between Johnson and Farrell’s surprise appearances, the ominous gravesite, the black rose and Swift’s emotional character, the 13-second teaser has raised far more questions than it answered.
And knowing Swift’s reputation for filling her music videos with hidden meanings and Easter eggs, fans will undoubtedly be analyzing every frame until the full story is finally revealed Sunday night.
