APC CAMPAIGN COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT PARIS ICC ARBITRATION COURT RULING: ATIKU ABUBAKAR UNFIT FOR NIGERIA'S PRESIDENCY  Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress candidate, is unfit to be President of Nigeria because he has once again proven he will compromise Nigeria’s best interests for personal, fiduciary gain. Abubakar’s legendary corruption reverberated in Paris at the International Arbitration Tribunal under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Hearings in the arbitration filed by Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Ltd (Sunrise) and Leno Adesanya over the stalled 3960mw Mambila Hydroelectric Power Project in Taraba State revealed that Abubakar and former power minister Olu Agunloye worked in cahoots to sign an illegal power contract with Sunrise.  Tragedy Hits OAU as Final-Year Student Dies in Alleged Suicide

The community of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been thrown into mourning following the sudden and tragic death of Oluwole Seun, a final-year student of the institution. Seun, who was studying Materials Science and Engineering, allegedly died by suicide at his off-campus residence.

The incident has left classmates and friends in deep shock, particularly as those close to him reported seeing no warning signs or unusual behavior prior to the tragic event.

Details of the Tragic Discovery

According to an official statement released by the university's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the institution's management was alerted to an emergency at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

The incident occurred at an off-campus apartment located in the Damico area of Ooni Layout in Ile-Ife. Upon receiving the distress call, OAU's Quick Response and Security (QRS) Team immediately mobilized to the scene, accompanied by officers from the Moore 'A' Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

Seun was quickly transported to the University Health Centre in an attempt to save his life. However, he was tragically pronounced dead on arrival by the attending medical doctor.

Police Launch Investigation as Campus Mourns

The university administration has confirmed that all items and relevant information recovered from the scene have been handed over to the police to assist with their ongoing investigation. Additionally, the Student Affairs division has been mobilized to offer emotional and welfare support to students affected by the loss.

Expressing his profound grief, the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased student.

A Call for Mental Health Awareness

In light of this tragedy, Professor Bamire strongly urged the student body to make use of the university's counseling and support services during times of emotional, academic, or personal distress.

"No student should feel that he or she has to confront overwhelming difficulties alone," the Vice-Chancellor emphasized, encouraging open communication and collective care within the university community.

The university has also appealed to the public and members of the campus community to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified rumors while law enforcement authorities complete their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
