ABU Vice-Chancellor Hosts 100 Students To Lunch, Urges Them To Look Beyond Certificates The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, has hosted 100 students to a lunch, urging them to look beyond academic certificates and focus on creating value and making meaningful contributions to society. The students participated in the university’s Lunch with the Vice-Chancellor programme held at the weekend, where Prof. Ahmed interacted with the select group and discussed the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities awaiting them both within and beyond the university. The Vice-Chancellor said the university would sustain the annual programme because its greatest strength lies in its people. “A university is not only its buildings, laboratories, and lecture halls; it is, above all, its people,” he said. Prof. Ahmed urged the students to see their time at ABU as more than a period for obtaining academic qualifications, but as an opportunity to discover...

Transgender woman imprisoned for falsely accusing six men of rape in the UK

A 26-year-old transgender woman, Khloe Simmonds, has been sentenced to prison after admitting that she falsely accused six men of rape over a seven-year period in the United Kingdom.

On Monday, September 7, 2026, Harrow Crown Court sentenced Simmonds to seven and a half years’ imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to eight counts of perverting the course of justice.

The court was told that between July 2018 and January 2026, Simmonds made at least 12 false allegations. Several of the accused men were detained by police before investigations established that the claims were untrue and they were released.

The presiding judge described her actions as a “sustained pattern of conduct,” adding that the false reports diverted police resources away from investigating genuine victims of serious crimes.

In one incident, Simmonds alleged that an Afghan man had raped her at knifepoint. He was arrested and remained under investigation for 88 days before authorities determined that the allegation was false.

The man maintained that Simmonds had made advances towards him, but he rejected them.

In a separate case, Simmonds met a chef through Grindr and invited him to her flat. The man reportedly left after feeling uncomfortable.

Simmonds later contacted emergency services through 999 and alleged that he had put a substance in her drink before raping her. Police arrested the man at his home, and he spent 20 hours in custody.

She also accused a taxi driver of raping her after he transported her home from a date. However, GPS evidence showed that the taxi never stopped during the journey and did not travel below 25mph.

Simmonds was subsequently arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of public justice and admitted that her allegations were false.

Her defence solicitor, Dominic Benthall, told the court that she had autism, ADHD and problems with alcohol dependency.

“There is plainly, or was plainly, at the time an underlying mental health difficulty,” Benthall said.

Simmonds followed the opening part of the sentencing hearing by video link from Wormwood Scrubs men’s prison in London. She later returned to her cell and refused to attend the remainder of the proceedings.
