 Abia Demolishes Structures Along Railways Quarters for New Road Project The Abia State Government has demolished shops and shanties on the right flank of the Nigerian Railways Quarters in Umuahia to clear the way for an ongoing road construction project. The Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) defended the action, stating that the occupants were given sufficient notice before the bulldozers moved in. According to the design plan and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Abia State Government and the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), the new road will run from the First Bank junction on Market Road through the Railways Quarters and terminate at Akanu Ibiam Road in the state capital. The government said the project is intended to ease traffic congestion in Umuahia and restore the aesthetic appeal of the capital city.  TROOPS OF OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA RESCUE THREE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS IN KATSINA STATE


Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), rescued three kidnapped victims following a distress call from local residents on terrorist activities along the Dandume-Sheme Road in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State on the 3 September 2026.


Acting on the distress call, troops in collaboration with the personnel of the Nigeria Police swiftly mobilized to the scene and made contact with the terrorists, overwhelming them with superior firepower. The terrorists fled in disarray into the surrounding bush abandoning their victims.


Exploitation of the general area led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims along with two vehicles used by the terrorists. The rescued victims and recovered vehicles were subsequently handed over to the Divisional Police Officer, Dandume, while troops continue to dominate the general area with aggressive patrols to deny the terrorists freedom of action.


The successful rescue operation demonstrates the resolve of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to safeguard the lives and property of law-abiding citizens across the Joint Operations Area. Operation FANSAN YAMMA appreciates the general public for its continuous support and urges them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities within their localities to the nearest security outpost for prompt action.
