 PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS ADE-JOHN SPECIAL ASSISTANT ON TRANSPORTATION President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Prince Adetokunbo Ademola Ade-John as Senior Special Assistant on Transportation and Mobility.  The appointment takes effect from August 27, 2026, with a mandate to strengthen coordination and policy implementation across key transportation institutions. Ade-John, a grassroots politician and former Special Assistant to the Minister of Tourism, is expected to bring his experience to advancing the administration’s transportation and mobility agenda.

 Trump formally nominates Hung Cao as permanent Navy secretary

    President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he is formally nominating acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao to serve permanently in the position.

The announcement came one day after Trump accepted Army Secretary Dan Driscoll's resignation and four months after former Navy Secretary John C. Phelan left the post.

Cao has served as acting Navy secretary since April, when Phelan departed. Trump previously said Phelan's departure was connected to conflicts within the Pentagon over the Navy's shipbuilding and acquisition plans, although he said the disagreements did not involve Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The Secretary of the Navy is the service's highest-ranking civilian official. Along with the Chief of Naval Operations, the Navy's top military officer, the secretary oversees the training and equipping of the Navy and Marine Corps but does not direct combat operations.

Trump praised Cao as a strong military leader and said he was confident Cao could help maintain the Navy and Marine Corps as the world's strongest fighting force.

The president urged the Senate to move quickly on Cao's confirmation, pointing to the work he has already carried out during his four months as acting secretary.

Cao's nomination comes as the administration faces continued pressure to expand and modernize the Navy, including efforts to increase shipbuilding and strengthen the nation's military capabilities.
