Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar have awkward moment on 'The View' while announcing Sara Haines' absence: 'She's not sick'

The September 16 episode of "The View" began with some uncertainty when Whoopi Goldberg acknowledged that co-host Sara Haines was absent but did not explain the reason. 

Goldberg said Haines might return the following day, while Joy Behar clarified that Haines was not ill. 

Behar explained that she wanted viewers to know this because people often become concerned when a familiar host is unexpectedly missing. Goldberg added that the hosts mention absences so viewers know they are aware of them.

Haines, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin are among the co-hosts who regularly appear throughout the week, while Goldberg, Behar and Ana Navarro have different schedules. The discussion also highlighted Behar’s long history with the program. 

At the beginning of Season 30, Goldberg congratulated Behar for becoming the woman with the longest hosting history on an American talk show. Behar joked about having been on the program since its early years and humorously reflected on how long she had remained part of the show.

Behar also joked about Goldberg’s 20 years on "The View", prompting laughter from the panel. Hostin then praised both women and reflected on the experience of working with them. 

She recalled Goldberg’s advice that the show should function like a game of volleyball, with each host contributing without dominating the discussion. 

Hostin also remembered Goldberg encouraging the hosts to ignore negative comments and press coverage and instead remain authentic, describing the longtime hosts as important leaders on the program.
