 Woman Busted Attempting to Smuggle Drugs in Bread to Boyfriend at Nairobi Police Station


A 26-year-old woman in Nairobi has been apprehended and placed in police custody following an alleged attempt to smuggle narcotics to her boyfriend, who is currently detained by authorities. The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) confirmed the incident, which occurred at Buruburu Police Station on Monday, September 21, 2026, involving cannabis concealed within a seemingly innocent loaf of bread.


Bernice Achieng arrived at the police station with an unsealed loaf of bread, which she intended to pass to her boyfriend. However, the unusual presentation of the package immediately drew the attention and suspicion of alert officers stationed at the report office desk.


Suspicion Leads to Drug Discovery


Acting on their heightened suspicions, officers conducted a thorough inspection of the bread. This detailed search led to the discovery of five rolls of bhang-cannabis Sativa-along with a matchbox, all cleverly hidden deep inside the loaf. This initial find prompted a more extensive search of Achieng herself.


The subsequent personal search yielded a further seven rolls of bhang, which were found stashed within the pocket of her jacket. This brought the total quantity of recovered illicit drugs to twelve rolls, underscoring the vigilance of the law enforcement personnel involved.


Arraignment Imminent for Accused


Following the discovery and seizure of the narcotics, Bernice Achieng was immediately taken into custody. The illicit substances have been secured as exhibits by the police. She is now expected to face charges related to drug trafficking and will be arraigned in court in the coming days. The incident highlights the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in preventing the entry of contraband into secure facilities.
