10 INJURED IN THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE CRASH, TRAIN COLLISION AVERTED AT ILUPEJU LAGOS

Ten passengers sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, while a potential train collision was averted at Ilupeju Bypass after a commercial bus broke down on a railway track.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency says the bridge accident occurred on Wednesday morning when a bus stopped to repair a faulty tyre but rammed into by another unsuspecting commercial bus. A trailer also hit the second bus before fleeing the scene.

Emergency responders administered first aid to the injured passengers and evacuated them to hospital for treatment while the affected section of the bridge was cleared and reopened to traffic.

In a separate incident, an emergency response team removed a broken-down commercial bus from a railway track at Ilupeju Bypass using a light tow truck, averting a possible collision with a train.

The agency while calling on residents  requiring emergency assistance to call 767 or 112 urges motorists to avoid roadside repairs on highways and bridges and to maintain their vehicles regularly.
