Christian leaders in Kaduna State have pledged to mobilise voters across the 19 northern states to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 general elections.
The leaders, operating under the Tinubu-Uba Sani Support Organisation (TUSO), also disclosed plans to establish a national platform aimed at uniting Christians across Northern Nigeria and strengthening their participation in politics.
The resolutions were contained in a communique issued after a meeting of Christian stakeholders held in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by leaders of the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), including chairmen from nine local government areas in Northern Kaduna, among them Giwa.
Other participants included representatives of the Southern Kaduna Leadership Elders’ Council, chairmen of 63 Community Development Associations, the Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, the governor’s political counsellor and the outgoing President of Hausa Christians, Professor Dauda Ishaya.
The communique was signed and issued to journalists in Kaduna on Tuesday by the meeting’s convener and Executive Chairman of Kachia Local Government Area, Hon. Dr Manzo Daniel Maigari, alongside TUSO Director-General, Matthew Kaku.
Explaining their decision to support Tinubu and Sani, the stakeholders pointed to what they described as the performance of the two leaders, the governor’s nomination of a Christian deputy governorship candidate and the establishment of federal institutions in Southern Kaduna.
They specifically cited the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan as projects that influenced their decision.
“Given the performance profiles of both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, and the nomination of a Christian deputy governorship candidate by the governor, stakeholders resolved to support the re-election of the President and the governor,” the communique stated.
The leaders said their endorsement was intended to allow both administrations to consolidate their programmes and sustain their achievements.
They also alleged that Christians were marginalised under the administration of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Leaders Plan National Christian Political Platform
As part of efforts to expand their political activities, the stakeholders said they had agreed to establish a national organisation covering all 19 northern states to promote Christian interests and encourage greater political participation.
“The meeting agreed to go beyond Kaduna State and form a national body for the entire 19 Northern States of Nigeria to identify with the objectives of standing up for Christians in the Northern States of Nigeria,” they stated.
According to the communique, the proposed organisation would provide a united platform for Christians to pursue shared interests and promote inclusive political outcomes.
The group also pledged to mobilise Christians, particularly in the North-West, to support Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kaduna State during the 2027 elections.
However, the stakeholders urged Christian political leaders to set aside personal ambitions and work collectively towards achieving their common goals.
“The Christian political elite should focus on working in harmony and not allow personal interests to overshadow the bigger picture of defending the interests of Christians in Kaduna State,” they stated.
They also called on members to resolve disagreements that could undermine the organisation’s objectives, emphasising the importance of unity between Christian communities in Southern and Northern Kaduna.
The communique noted that Christians in Southern Kaduna had resolved to carry their counterparts in Northern Kaduna along in the pursuit of their shared political interests.
Stakeholders Demand Inclusive Governance
Despite their endorsement of Tinubu and Sani, the Christian leaders said they expected both administrations to demonstrate fairness, accountability and inclusiveness in governance.
“In solidly giving our support to the President and governor, we, the voters, expect our leaders to reciprocate with inclusive governance and fairness in distributing the dividends of democracy,” they stated.
The stakeholders added that they would hold both leaders accountable for meeting the aspirations of Christian communities in Kaduna State and across Northern Nigeria.
