Freddie Jackson, R&B Legend Behind “You Are My Lady” and “Rock Me Tonight,” Dies at 70 R&B has lost one of its most unmistakable voices. Freddie Jackson, the singer whose smooth delivery helped define romantic R&B during the 1980s and gave generations of listeners songs including “You Are My Lady,” “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)” and “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” has died. He was 70. Jackson’s death was announced Tuesday, October 6, through his verified Instagram account. According to the memorial shared by his family and team, the singer died Monday night, October 5. The announcement did not disclose a cause of death. “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Freddie Jackson,” the statement read, describing the singer as a generous soul who loved his fans, family, friends and music.  ABDUCTION, SOKOTO GOVERNMENT DENIES ABDUCTION OF GAMJI COLLEGE STUDENTS 


The attention of the Sokoto State Government has been drawn to a false report published by Sahara Reporters alleging that 18 Students of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, a private health institution, were abducted by suspected terrorists while travelling to Oyo State.


According to the report, the Students were said to have been travelling in a chartered Bus from Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, to Oyo State when the alleged incident occurred.

Government House, Sokoto Abubakar Bawa, the Sokoto State Government categorically states that no student of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, was abducted by suspected terrorists. 


It urges the Public is to disregard the report, as it is false and has no basis.


For the avoidance of doubt and to set the record straight, the Person reported to have been abducted is Halima Sokeni, a former Student of Gamji College of Nursing Sciences, More Area, Sokoto State who graduated from the institution as a midwife in September this year.


Halima Sokeni was reportedly travelling back home on Thursday, 1st October, when She alongside other Passengers were abducted in Niger State.


The Sokoto State Government therefore appeals to Journalists and Media Organisations to always adhere to the ethics and professional standards of journalism by verifying information before publication, in order to avoid spreading false, misleading and potentially alarming reports.
