 FG ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF OWERRI AIRPORT FOR RUNWAY REHABILITATION  The  Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the temporary closure of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, to allow for major runway rehabilitation works. A statement by the  Minister says the closure has become necessary to improve safety and operational efficiency at the airport, ahead of the Christmas travel season. It adds that the rehabilitation project is a joint partnership between the Federal Government and the Imo State Government, and will involve repairs to deteriorated sections of the runway, treatment of surface cracks, filling of potholes, resurfacing, and extension works to accommodate larger aircraft. The Minister disclosed that he had earlier spoken with the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, who, along with other critical stakeholders in the South-East, agreed on the need for the temporary closure. ABIA POLICE COMMAND APPREHENDS SUSPECTED CURRENCY COUNTERFEITER RECOVERS EXHIBITS


SUSPECT

1.John Paul, male, 40 years old.


EXHIBITS RECOVERED

1.Seven (7) bundles of counterfeit ₦200 notes.


FACTS OF THE CASE

1.Leveraging on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Abia State Police Command raided a hideout within Obikabia community in Aba, where some criminal elements were engaged in the production of counterfeit Nigerian currency.


2.During the operation, the above mentioned suspect, was apprehended, while seven (7) bundles of counterfeit ₦200 notes were recovered as exhibits.

Investigation is ongoing, as efforts are in place to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.


3.The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc(+), mnips, JP, reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state. He emphasizes that Abia State will remain a no-go area for criminals and their nefarious activities.
