The African Union has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment and use of the African Standby Force to support efforts against terrorism and emerging security threats.
The AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye made the disclosure at a two-day high-level forum on repositioning the Multinational Joint Taskforce to effectively combat evolving security threats in the Lake Chad Region.
The Statement further adds that the Forum was convened by the Defence Headquarters in partnership with the irregular Warfare Centre of the National Defence College in Abuja.
Ambassador Adeoye notes that the Standby Force is designed as an agile Continental Force that will complement the efforts of the Multinational Joint Taskforce in the fight against terrorism and other emerging security threats in the Lake Chad Region.
