A pregnant woman, a man, his wife and their six-month-old baby have been abducted by suspected bandits who invaded Alrahus Estate in Kaduna Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack occurred at about 11:30pm on Monday, throwing residents of the estate into panic as the assailants reportedly went from house to house searching for victims.
The husband of the pregnant woman, Abdulladir Bello, who confirmed the incident, said he was in Abuja when his wife called to inform him that some people were trying to force their way into their compound.
Bello said he attempted to contact the police but was unable to get through. He subsequently reached out to the military, which quickly deployed personnel to the area.
“I was in Abuja when she called around 11:30pm to tell me that thieves were trying to force their way into the compound.
“So I tried calling the police because I was confused, but their lines were not getting through. I then reached out to the military and they sent their men,” he said.
According to Bello, the attackers fled with his pregnant wife after breaking into a neighbouring house, where they abducted a man, his wife and their six-month-old baby.
He added that the abductors later contacted him and demanded a huge ransom for the release of his wife.
Bello praised the military for its swift response and urged residents to continue working closely with security agencies to address insecurity in their communities.
A resident whose house was also attacked but managed to escape with his family said the assailants entered several houses in the estate and searched for people to abduct.
The resident, who said he moved to the estate about four years ago after bandits terrorised his community in the Keke B area, said the latest attack had renewed fears among residents.
“Now they have followed us here again, but we thank God nobody was killed. We pray that those abducted will return safely to their families,” he said.
