The Ekiti State Police Command has commenced investigation into allegations of extortion, intimidation, disobedience to lawful orders and other acts of unprofessional conduct involving some police personnel while carrying out stop and search duties within the State. The incident, which is currently circulating on social media, is being given the necessary attention by the Command.

The development followed a complaint received at the Ilupeju Police Division on 6 October 2026 from representatives of the Biker Association, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Chapter. The complainants alleged that one of their members, while riding alone from Itapa to Ikole-Ekiti, was intercepted by a patrol team and subjected to an alleged demand for money under circumstances considered improper.

Upon receipt of the complaint, the Command immediately commenced preliminary inquiries into the allegation. The officers involved were identified and taken into custody for questioning, while the circumstances surrounding the alleged extortion, intimidation and other acts of unprofessional conduct are being thoroughly investigated.

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP FALADE ADEGOROYE MICHEAL, has directed that the officers be subjected to appropriate disciplinary procedures in accordance with the extant regulations and disciplinary provisions of the Nigeria Police Force, subject to the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

The matter has consequently been transferred to the State Police Headquarters, Ado-Ekiti, for discreet, comprehensive and impartial investigation, with a view to establishing the facts and taking appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns all forms of extortion, intimidation, abuse of authority and other conduct capable of undermining public confidence or bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute. He reiterates that no police officer is authorised to demand or collect money from members of the public under any guise in the course of carrying out legitimate police duties.

The Command remains firmly committed to professionalism, discipline, accountability and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens. All officers are therefore reminded that any act of misconduct, abuse of office or violation of established rules and regulations will attract appropriate sanctions.

Members of the public are encouraged to promptly report any incident of unprofessional conduct involving police personnel through the appropriate channels. The Command assures the public that every credible complaint will be given due attention and that officers found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law and extant Police regulations.
