AAC SEEK FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO ON SOWORE IN EKITI The African Action Congress, AAC, has called for further investigation into the reported attack on Omoyele Sowore and other party members in Ekiti State, despite the arrest of eleven suspects. In a statement by its national publicity secretary, Rex Elanu, the AAC says new video footage has emerged which it believes could help identify more persons involved in the incident. The party has expressed concern over the handling of CCTV recordings from the restaurant where the incident occurred, and alleges that some stolen phones were traced to the governor's lodge in Ekiti State. It is seeking an independent investigation into these claims, the handling of recovered items and the circumstances surrounding the incident. The AAC has also called for the arrest and prosecution of any other persons found to have been involved, and demanded an investigation into the conduct of any security officers who may have acted unprofessionally.

HEFAMAA MOVES TO STRENGTHEN PAEDIATRIC CARE, INSPECTS MASSEY STREET CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

The Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), Lagos State, has inspected Massey Street Children’s Hospital, Lagos Island, as part of its regulatory process for the registration and accreditation of healthcare facilities in the State.

The exercise, led by the Team Lead and Director, Inspectorate Department, HEFAMAA, Dr. Olayinka Daniel, was aimed at assessing the hospital’s facilities, personnel, equipment and operational processes, as well as its compliance with the minimum standards prescribed by the Agency for the provision of safe and quality healthcare services.

Massey Street Children’s Hospital, one of the State’s key public healthcare facilities dedicated to paediatric care, provides specialised medical services to children and serves a large number of patients from Lagos and beyond.

During the exercise, the HEFAMAA team inspected critical service areas of the facility, including the wards, theatre, emergency unit, laboratory, X-ray unit, pharmacy, dental department, Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), General Outpatient Department (GOPD), kitchen, laundry and final waste collection point.

The assessment focused on the facility’s compliance with standards applicable to multispecialist health facilities, with particular attention to infrastructure, equipment, infection prevention and control, patient safety, waste management and other critical components of healthcare delivery.

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Daniel commended the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the management and staff of the hospital in providing care to children, despite the challenges associated with space constraints and the very high turnover of sick children at the facility.

He explained that the exercise provided an opportunity for the Agency to assess the hospital’s areas of strength while identifying areas requiring improvement, stressing that sustained compliance with regulatory standards remained essential to ensuring patient safety and quality healthcare delivery.

Responding, the Medical Director/CEO of Massey Street Children’s Hospital, Dr. Olanike A. Olutekunbi, welcomed the HEFAMAA team and reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to maintaining the required standards in the delivery of quality healthcare services to children.

Dr. Olutekunbi expressed the hospital’s readiness to work with HEFAMAA in addressing any gaps identified during the exercise and ensuring continuous improvement in the quality and safety of services provided to patients.

She also acknowledged the importance of regulatory oversight in strengthening healthcare delivery and safeguarding the wellbeing of children who access care at the hospital.

At the conclusion of the exercise, the HEFAMAA team provided observations and recommendations aimed at strengthening the facility’s compliance with the Agency’s regulatory requirements and improving service delivery.

The inspection underscores HEFAMAA’s commitment to ensuring that healthcare facilities across Lagos State operate in line with established standards while promoting patient safety, professionalism and quality healthcare delivery.
