Kaduna Court Grants Bail To 12 Opposition Leaders Arrested Over Kafanchan Political Violence
A Magistrate Court in Kabala, within the Kaduna State Magisterial District, has granted bail to 12 opposition party leaders arrested over Monday’s political violence in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The development follows an earlier report by SaharaReporters on Wednesday that the court had ordered the suspects to be remanded at the Kabala Police Station pending further proceedings.
A source close to the detained politicians confirmed their release on bail on Thursday and thanked SaharaReporters for its impartial coverage of the incident.
“Magistrate Court Kabala has grant our people bail. We really appreciate SaharaReporters for reporting the incident without bias,” the source said.
The conditions attached to the bail had not been disclosed as of the time of filing this report. It was also unclear whether the case had been adjourned for further mention.
SaharaReporters had reported on Tuesday that the Kaduna State Police Command arrested and detained 12 opposition party leaders in connection with the violence. Meanwhile, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain accused of instigating the attack was reportedly released without being charged.
Eight of the detained politicians belong to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while the remaining four are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The ADC members arrested were Anas Usman Amfani, Abubakar Sadiq, Abdulmalik Muhammad, Ibrahim Tanimu Amfani, Hamza Kure, Bala Nuhu, Sauban Jibril, and Ya’u Zakariya, the party’s chairman in Jema’a.
Those arrested from the PDP include the party’s Jema’a chairman, Hassan Yaro, alongside Babangida Talle, Aliyu Saeed, and Dini Muhammad.
The APC chieftain, Isyaka Abdullahi Ladan, was reportedly released.
