Katie Zacharia reveals how she got Trump's press secretary job as she confirms start date.
Katie Zacharia revealed how she landed the role as President Donald Trump's next White House press secretary during an appearance on Fox News Friday evening.
Speaking on Jesse Watters Primetime on Oct. 9, the conservative commentator said she got a call directly from the president himself after Karoline Leavitt stepped down at the end of August.
She told Watters she got a wonderful call from the chief talent recruiter, the president himself, and that being a huge supporter of his policies helped.
She said Trump loved what a fighter she was for him and now she gets to continue promoting what he is doing for the American people.
When asked about her first briefing, Zacharia said her first day is Monday and Trump is full of surprises, adding she looks forward to serving him and the American people. She also used the appearance to urge people to vote Republican in November and defended Trump policies on immigration and the auto industry.
Trump praised her on Truth Social, calling her loyal and brilliant with an unblemished record of support and a devoted MAGA member.
According to LinkedIn, she was a DHS spokesperson earlier this year, interned for the RNC and White House in 2006, and since June 2026 has been senior communications advisor for Trump Media and Technology Group which runs Truth Social.
