The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) wishes to inform the public of its prompt emergency interventions across the State in the last 24 hours, with particular reference to a car fire incident along the LASU-Igando corridor.
At about 11:30pm on 23rd October, 2026, the Agency received a distress call regarding a car on fire at Obadore Bridge inward Igando, along LASU-Igando Road. The Beta Response Team from Igando Base was immediately activated and deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the team observed a CNG-powered car with an unknown registration number fully engulfed in flames. The immediate cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of reporting.
The Agency’s Response Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, swiftly commenced fire suppression operations and successfully extinguished the inferno. Fortunately, no loss of life was recorded, although the vehicle was completely burnt beyond recognition.
During the fire suppression operation, a secondary incident occurred when a Mercedes-Benz saloon car with registration number AAA 662 KU rammed into the Fire Truck from behind. The situation was immediately managed by emergency responders without any casualties recorded.
The Lagos State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, assures residents that the safety of lives and property remains paramount. The Government continues to strengthen emergency response capacity across all corridors and advises motorists, especially operators of CNG-powered vehicles, to ensure regular safety checks and strict adherence to safety regulations.
In other operations, the Agency also responded to a fallen container incident at Ketu Ejirin, Itokin Road, Epe. Preliminary investigation revealed that an articulated truck conveying a 40ft container with registration number KSF-658 YN overturned around midnight while the driver allegedly attempted to evade payment of tickets to local touts by driving against traffic to avoid the roundabout, obstructing about forty per cent of the carriageway. Three adult males, comprising two local touts and the motor boy, sustained injuries and were taken to Epe General Hospital before the arrival of the LRT. With the support of LASTMA, the Nigeria Police Force and a private crane, the container was successfully recovered and loaded onto another flatbed truck, and the road has been cleared and reopened to traffic.
The Agency also responded to a serious truck accident at Otto Wharf, Mile 2, where a truck conveying a 40ft container fell sideways on two victims, a mother and child, following a mechanical fault. The victims were unfortunately confirmed deceased while trapped underneath the container. Collaborative rescue efforts commenced with LASEMA Eagle Response Team, LASTMA and Lagos State Fire Service. However, due to the volatile nature of the environment, the LRT had to tactically withdraw from the scene for safety reasons.
Similarly, in the early hours of today, 24th October, 2026, the Cobra Response Team from Onipanu responded to a truck accident at Ijora Olopa where a truck conveying double 20ft containers rammed into a parked truck loaded with plywood due to reckless driving and overspeeding. Fortunately, no loss of life was recorded. Recovery efforts are ongoing in collaboration with LASTMA and the Nigeria Police.
The Lagos State Government commiserates with affected families and reiterates its commitment to ensuring rapid emergency response across the State. Residents are enjoined to continue to report all emergencies through the toll-free lines 767 and 112.
