The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring sustainable, technology-driven and well-coordinated parking management solutions across the State for better service delivery.
The General Manager of the Parking Authority, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, during a recent interview, emphasised the importance of stakeholder collaboration, public compliance and private sector participation in achieving the mandate.
She noted that technology and innovation are central to LASPA’s approach to modern parking management, stressing that effective technology-driven solutions depend on accurate data, reliable systems and proper integration among relevant agencies.
Mrs. Adelabu disclosed that LASPA is putting systems in place for better service delivery through more effective and efficient parking management. She identified other unique qualities to be deployed for authorised parking agents and marshals, including verifiable QR-coded uniforms and identification cards, as well as the deployment of appropriate technological solutions to help motorists identify legitimate personnel.
She called on the private sector to partner with the LASPA, noting that the government cannot independently meet every infrastructure and service delivery need of the people. According to her, “sectors such as healthcare, education, childcare and transportation require significant attention and investment, making private sector participation essential to expanding parking infrastructure and improving service delivery”.
While acknowledging that on-street parking activities are already taking place in some parts of Lagos, she clarified that the initiative has not fully commenced across its intended scope.
She explained that the delay in the full implementation of on-street parking is largely linked to the need to secure a more effective synergy and training of the private sector partners before the initiative is fully deployed.
The General Manager, LASPA, further disclosed that under the planned on-street parking arrangement, one out of every ten parking spaces would be reserved for persons living with disabilities, stressing that their accessibility is incorporated into the design and implementation of the system.
The Authority therefore urged motorists, businesses, investors and members of the public to support LASPA’s efforts towards developing an organised, accessible and sustainable parking management system to improve mobility, better use of urban spaces and a more liveable Lagos.
